Interviews and discussions:
RITMO Award for Martyna van Nieuwland
„RITMO Award was founded to praise the experts who have done – quietly, in the background – immeasurably much for world music. Every year the award is presented to a different industry expert who furthered the reputation of regional world music.”
In the last 10 years Budapest RITMO Award was received by individuals like Ben Mandelson (founder of WOMEX), Simon Broughton (editor-in-chief of Songlines magazine), Hilde Bjørkum (director of Førde Festival), Helen Sildna (founder of Tallinn Music Week), Chris Eckman (founder of Glitterbeat Records) and family Bojan Đorđević and Marija Vitas accompanied by their daughter Mitra and her Panda-toy (Ring Ring Festival, Pocket Globe Festival and World Music Association of Serbia).
This year, on special occasion of 10th anniversary of RITMO, Martyna van Nieuwland, founder of MVN CULTURE has had an honour to be Budapest RITMO Awardee.
Words of gratitude for the introspective in-depth interview by Balázs Weyer and for the beautiful custom-made award which is a unique vinyl – 1 copy with very special playlist that is a soundtrack of Martyna’s life. Inspiring and beautiful moment. Shout out to all philosophers in music field, remembering times in Central Asia, old days in academia and extended decade of supporting arts from my home town Katowice and Upper Silesian region.
